Our story
It started with a stack of handwritten recipe cards.
A family recipe problem became the beginning of Vibe Yum.
The recipe cards were the easy part.
A few years ago, my oldest son moved out and wanted to start cooking the recipes he’d grown up with. I was thrilled—until I started sending him photos of our recipe cards.
Most were written in cursive. He comes from a generation that never learned to read it, so my photos weren’t helping much. Being the tech guy he is, he built a simple recipe site where we could type in our family recipes.
It worked beautifully—when I had time to sit down at my computer and fill out a recipe form. And I didn’t have much. Before long, I was saving the really important family recipes there and texting him the rest, or talking him through them one step at a time.
Then the recipes got easier.
A few years later, my son had become a strong software developer and decided to take another run at the site. This time, he brought in AI to help import recipes from a photo or a link.
I tried it, and it worked almost instantly. I was ecstatic. Then I started exploring and realized it could help with so much more: calculating macros, planning meals around what I already had, and keeping a shared grocery list.
I’d tried plenty of cooking apps before. I wanted one place that would actually bring together the things I needed, and make them easy to use in the middle of a busy day.
I convinced him to turn it into a real app. He agreed—as long as I helped with the marketing.
